When someone adds you to a homecoin property or transaction, the email you receive depends on whether you already have a homecoin account and how you normally sign in.
Which email will I receive?
Account setup invitation — valid for seven days
You receive a private account setup invitation when you are new to homecoin or do not yet have a usable way to sign in. The link expires after seven days.
Follow the link to finish setting up your account. Depending on your account, you may create a homecoin password or use an eligible linked Apple, Google, or Microsoft account.
An account invitation gives you access to the property. It does not mean that documents are ready to sign.
Verify Your Email Address — valid for four hours
You receive a four-hour email-verification message when you already have a permanent homecoin password but still need to prove that you control the account email address.
This message verifies your email. It does not create or replace your password. Continue using your existing password, or use standard password recovery if you have forgotten it.
Added to Transaction notice
You receive an Added to Transaction notice when your existing account is already active, verified, and ready to sign in. Use your current homecoin password or the Apple, Google, or Microsoft account already linked to homecoin.
The notice does not create a new password or start a password reset. It also does not necessarily mean that your role can sign documents.
What do the account-access statuses mean?
A person managing the property may see one of these statuses for an owner or authorized signer:
- Invitation sent: A current seven-day setup link is available.
- Account ready: The account is active, verified, and can sign in with a permanent homecoin password or linked social account.
- Temporary access: A previously issued temporary password still works until its expiration date. Email verification may still be required.
- Account setup required: The person does not currently have a usable sign-in method. An eligible property manager may send a seven-day invitation.
- Email verification required: The person has a permanent password but must verify the account email. The available action sends a four-hour verification message.
- Invitation expired: The latest account setup link is more than seven days old.
- Invitation problem: No usable invitation is available, or homecoin cannot send one for the account in its current state.
Signing pages may hide the Account ready label because no setup action is needed.
What happens when an invitation is resent?
When homecoin resends an account setup invitation, every older outstanding invitation for that person and property stops working. The newest link is valid for seven days.
Always use the newest homecoin email. If the account needs only email verification, homecoin sends a new four-hour verification message instead of another setup invitation.
The Send or Resend option appears only when homecoin determines that another invitation is appropriate. It is not available for an account that is already ready, the person currently managing the property, a removed or ineligible participant, or an unavailable account.
Why must the email and social account match exactly?
An invitation is connected to one person, property, role, and account email. Use the exact email address that received the invitation.
If you sign in with Apple, Google, or Microsoft, choose the exact social account connected to homecoin. Another social account with a similar email address will not match. homecoin two-factor authentication still applies when it is enabled.
For a newly invited account, the social provider must confirm that the invited email is verified. A Microsoft display username by itself may not prove control of that email, so a new invitee may need to use the password-setup option. A Microsoft account that was already linked to homecoin can continue using that exact linked account.
If the invitation was sent to the wrong email, the person managing the property should open Edit → Replace email/account, confirm the old and new emails, and save the property. This replaces only the property participant, revokes the old invitation, and does not change or delete the old homecoin account.
How do social-only accounts and two-factor authentication work?
A person with a verified Apple, Google, or Microsoft account linked to homecoin can sign in and sign their own documents without creating a homecoin password.
If homecoin two-factor authentication is enabled, the person must complete that check after social sign-in. A failed or abandoned two-factor check does not use the invitation or change the account.
A verified social-only user can optionally add a first homecoin password from Account Settings → Sign-in Methods. The user must sign in again with the same linked provider and exact social account, complete homecoin two-factor authentication when enabled, and finish within 15 minutes. Adding a password keeps social sign-in available and makes standard password recovery available.
If you are currently setting up an account through an invitation, follow the invitation steps. The Account Settings password option does not replace active invitation setup.
What is Send Sign-In Help?
Send Sign-In Help is available for an account-ready signer who needs help returning to the correct Sign or Manage page. The email is tailored to the sign-in methods available on that account:
- If the account has a homecoin password, the message can link to the standard password-recovery request page. It does not create a reset link by itself.
- If the account is social-only, the message says to use the linked Apple, Google, or Microsoft account and provides guidance for optionally adding a homecoin password.
- If setup or email verification is incomplete, homecoin keeps the separate invitation or verification action instead.
To protect accounts, sign-in-help messages and repeated password attempts are limited. If a help message was just sent for the same person and property, wait before trying again.
Troubleshooting an invitation or sign-in message
- Use the newest email from homecoin. Older setup links stop working after a resend.
- Check your spam or junk folder and confirm that you are checking the exact invited email address.
- If a seven-day link expired, ask an eligible property manager to resend it.
- If you reset an existing password, return to the invitation and sign in. Resetting the password alone does not finish the invitation.
- If a completed setup is not reflected on the property page, reload the page.
- If the public page says the link is unavailable, it may be expired, replaced, connected to a changed participant or role, or opened with the wrong account. The same message is used for security, so it does not reveal the specific reason.
Important security reminders
- Never share an invitation link, password, two-factor code, or password-reset link.
- homecoin support and other property participants should never ask you to email or text a password.
- Enter passwords only on homecoin.
- Sign-In Help never creates a password or sends someone else's credentials.
- Saving a draft or autosave does not send invitations. Invitations are sent only after the participant change is successfully saved.
If a newly resent invitation still shows the unavailable-link message, contact support@homecoin.com. Include the property and participant email, but do not send the invitation URL or its private code.
