I'm Being Blackballed By The Local Real Estate Agents!
We hear this sometimes from For Sale by Owner sellers. While it can be frustrating that agents are not showing your home, it is extremely unlikely that they have banded together against you. There are a couple reasons for this:
- They would lose their license if anyone ever found out that they were working together against you. It's just not worth the time and potential risks. Anti-trust law is covered heavily in real estate education.
- They want to make a living. If they can sell your home and make a reason commission, they will.
If you are not getting any showings, it means something is wrong with the listing. See our article here: Why Isn't My House Selling?
By agents not showing your home, they risk losing a lot of commission money, having an unhappy buyer, and losing their license/severe penalties if it was a coordinated effort.
On the other hand, if they show the home they potentially make a nice commission and have a happy client.
But an agent actually told me that other agents won't show my home!
They will tell you that, and also that they personally would show the home to their buyers, but most other agents would not.
The will also tell you that they like you and want to help, and if you decided you got sick of selling the home yourself they would give you a deal on listing the home.
You are dealing with sales people. They want your listing. These are sales tactics. It's so common it's painful, don't fall for it.
We have sellers say all of the above to us, and end up cancelling their listing to list with a traditional agent. A month or two later, the seller comes back and lists with us again because find out that it was all a sales job.
Agents will show up with their buyers if there is a fair commission offered. Period. If you are offering a fair commission and not getting buyers in the door, something is wrong with the listing. See our article here: Why Isn't My House Selling?
