North Carolina Septic Permit Verification

North Carolina requires that when a home with a septic system is listed for sale, the septic permit is verified for the following:

  1. The number of bedrooms in the advertisement matches the number authorized by the permit. 
  2. The permit is not expired.

When submitting an MLS listing, we require that a copy of the septic permit is included. We are not able to list a home with a septic system on the MLS unless we have verified the permit.

 

Where can I get a copy of my septic permit?

Your county health department can provide you a copy, though certain types of septic treatment solutions require a permit directly from a state agency. If for some reason the permit does not exist, you can provide the email from the county stating this. See the bottom of this article, as we may note the contact for your county health department.

 

Where do I upload the permit in my listing?

In the "Photos & Documents" section of the MLS listing product, you can upload a copy of the permit.
